Documentation
The Forum Marinum Maritime Centre preserves objects, photographs and audiovisual material as well as reminiscence and other archive material. The material added to the collections is catalogued in an electronic database. The Forum Marinum objects collection has been enlarged since 1999, but the museum also displays much material collected earlier. For example, the collections of Finland’s oldest maritime museum, the Åbo Akademi Maritime History Museum, are deposited at Forum Marinum. They were collected between the years 1936 and 1999. In addition, the maritime collections of the Museum Centre of Turku, collected since the late 19th century, when the Historical Museum was founded, are deposited at Forum Marinum. The Finnish Navy Museum collections are owned by the Military Museum, while Forum Marinum is responsible for their maintenance and suggests additions to the collections. Forum Marinum also has some special collections, such as a collection of miniatures owned by the Bore shipping company and the extensive outboard engine collection of Jouko Kurri.
